Former Minnesota Viking Everson Griffen Arrested For Not Using Interlock Device
Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen was arrested Friday night in Winona, Minnesota. Local officials booked the former NFL player on a gross misdemeanor charge for failing to use an ignition interlock device in his vehicle.
Police reports state that authorities pulled Griffen over on Riverview Drive for allegedly driving 62 mph in a 40 mph zone. The interlock requirement stems from previous legal obligations, as the device is designed to prevent a vehicle from starting unless the driver provides a breathalyzer sample of 0.00.
Griffen addressed the situation on social media shortly after his release from the Winona County Detention Center. He stated that no alcohol or drugs were involved in the traffic stop. According to Griffen, the issue arose because he failed to complete a required class and test before moving to a new address. He confirmed that he intends to resolve these administrative requirements on Monday.
Griffen spent 10 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted in 2010. During his tenure with the organization, he earned recognition as a four-time Pro Bowler and recorded 85.5 career sacks. The former defensive star is currently scheduled for a court appearance on August 28 to address the pending charge.
