Source: Panthers rookie WR Chris Brazzell suffers LCL tear
The Carolina Panthers face another injury setback at training camp. Rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell II sustained a moderate lateral collateral ligament tear in his left knee during a Wednesday practice. The injury occurred during a 7-on-7 drill. Team staff confirmed the event was a noncontact play. Brazzell is currently expected to miss up to eight weeks of action as he recovers. He will seek a second medical opinion on the injury.
Brazzell entered the season as a key competitor for the WR3 spot. The coaching staff looked to him to provide speed, as he ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine. This news follows other recent health issues for the team. Earlier in the week, the Panthers lost pass rusher Nic Scourton to a season-ending ACL tear. Tight end Mitchell Evans also exited Tuesday with a low ankle sprain.
Injuries across the offensive line further complicate the team situation. Starting offensive tackles Taylor Moton and Ickey Ekwonu are sidelined to start the season. Guards Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt have also missed practice time with calf and back issues respectively. Despite these challenges, the team continues camp preparations while navigating these personnel absences.
Selected in the third round out of Tennessee, Brazzell arrived with high expectations. His ability to act as a deep threat remains a significant part of the team's long-term plan. He recorded 1,017 yards and nine touchdowns last season. The team is currently monitoring the recovery timelines for all players affected during this opening stretch of training camp.
