Tony Romo placed on leave by CBS Sports following arrest

CBS Sports has placed NFL analyst Tony Romo on leave following his arrest last week. The network confirmed the decision on Friday as the legal process moves forward.

Authorities initiated a traffic stop on July 23 after observing Romo passing cars in a gore area. According to records from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, Romo received three citations following the encounter. Deputies reported that Romo exhibited signs of impairment, including red glassy eyes and the odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage. An open container of alcohol was also found in his vehicle.

Court records indicate that Romo refused to submit to a test for intoxication at the time of his arrest. He was taken into custody, booked, and subsequently released. A court appearance for these charges is currently scheduled for September 21.

Since 2017, Romo has served as the lead game analyst for CBS' NFL broadcast team. Prior to his career in media, he played 13 seasons as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He remains the franchise leader in career touchdown passes and previously held the team record for passing yards. CBS has stated that the leave of absence for the 46-year-old analyst remains in effect until further notice.
