Perry extra motivated by son, 'stoked' to make another run with Kings

Corey Perry is preparing for his 22nd season in the National Hockey League after signing a new one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. The 41-year-old forward recorded 28 points in 50 games during his previous stint with the team before a brief time with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is now back in Southern California to contribute to the roster.

This decision is fueled by a desire to keep competing at a high level. Perry credits his 9-year-old son, Griffin, for helping him maintain his hunger for the game. The two are often seen together at team events and community activities, providing Perry with extra motivation during the difficult offseason training schedule. He views these shared experiences as a core part of his current career stage.

Beyond his personal drive, Perry likes the direction of the organization. The Kings made notable offseason adjustments, including hiring Peter Laviolette as head coach and adding Mats Zuccarello and Erik Haula to the forward group. Perry believes these additions position the team to compete for a playoff spot and make a push for the Stanley Cup.

He remains focused on his individual performance as well. With 972 career points, he sits within reach of the 500-goal milestone.
