Freedom Factory launches the world's first hardware wallet that solves the quantum computing threat
Freedom Factory recently announced the PQ1, a hardware wallet designed to resist quantum computing threats. As quantum technology advances, standard ECDSA security models face vulnerabilities. The PQ1 offers a response by using the SPHINCS+C10 hashing algorithm to provide security for Ethereum and EVM users today.
The device is built with dual secure elements to protect private keys across separate silicon components. This hardware approach operates independently of protocol upgrades. Users can sign transactions using quantum-safe signatures, bypassing the wait for broader blockchain updates.
Transparency is a core component of this product. The firmware and hardware schematics are fully open source, allowing independent audits of the design. The device also includes local transaction decoding, which displays transaction details in a human-readable format to prevent blind signing attacks.
The PQ1 is priced at 179 dollars and represents a move toward increased self-custody. Freedom Factory intends to ship the first units in the fourth quarter of 2026. Pre-orders are currently open for those looking to secure assets against emerging computational risks.
Investors backing this project include industry figures such as Vitalik Buterin and Balaji Srinivasan. The company intends for this hardware to serve as a standard for future digital asset protection.
