While the application is designed to run on the watch, it is important to note that it is not fully independent of your phone. The WatchFM app requires the Zepp app to remain active in the background on your connected smartphone. Because the watch maintains a Bluetooth connection to the phone to pull data, you cannot stream audio if you are out of your device's range. Even with a Wi-Fi connection on the watch, the current setup relies on this proximity to function.
The app provides basic controls for listeners, allowing volume adjustments using the watch hardware buttons. During testing on the Amazfit Cheetah 2 Pro, the interface performed as expected. The software also offers a few configuration settings and shows battery levels while in use. The current station list is limited but features international options for those who enjoy diverse programming.
At present, compatibility is restricted to Amazfit models featuring round displays. Developers indicate that support for devices with rectangular screens is expected to arrive in a later update. This software reflects the ongoing trend of expanding wearable functionality through third-party development, similar to the app ecosystem seen on other popular fitness-focused watch brands.
