Since many current Pixel models already support this hardware, the foundation for an accurate, easy-to-use search experience is already present.
Beyond hardware, the network performance is the most important factor. Apple’s success comes from its massive, passive network that helps locate lost items anonymously. Google’s Find Hub exists, but it must function with the same level of reliability to be truly effective. Default activation across all devices is a requirement for the network to remain dependable.
Finally, hardware design choices matter for daily use. A swappable coin-cell battery provides the best user experience because it eliminates the need for charging and allows for quick power resets. Including a built-in lanyard hole is another essential detail. Forcing users to buy separate accessories just to attach a tracker to a keyring is an unnecessary frustration that Google can easily avoid.
If the rumors hold true and a launch is near, Google has the pieces to create a market-leading device. Successfully implementing these four features would turn the Pixel Tag into a genuine alternative for those of us who prefer to carry only one phone.
