Apple is preparing the release of watchOS 27, and the beta software reveals significant changes to how users navigate their devices. The update prioritizes efficiency for the brief interactions typical of a wrist-worn device.
The most prominent change is the new dynamic app grid. While the classic honeycomb layout and list views remain, the default grid now highlights your five most-used apps alongside the Siri icon. This adjustment reduces the time spent scrolling through unused software to find core tools.
Interactivity also receives an update with a new single-tap gesture. In the Smart Stack, users can select and launch a widget with a simple tap of their index finger and thumb. This builds on previous double-tap and wrist-flick features to provide more control without touching the screen directly.
Siri sees a major overhaul with the integration of new AI capabilities. The update introduces a dedicated Siri app on the watch, allowing users to review conversation history. Importantly, the watch version of the assistant now offers the same intelligence as versions on the iPhone and Mac, ensuring a consistent experience across all hardware.
