New data from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows a strong performance for the country's major internet and service companies during the first half of 2026. These businesses generated 1.0675 trillion yuan in revenue. This figure marks a 10.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Profitability also improved for this sector. The companies reported total profits of 98.99 billion yuan for the first half of the year. This represents a 16.6 percent rise year-on-year. The growth in profits is particularly notable given the acceleration from the January-May period, where gains were significantly lower.
Investment in future growth remains a priority for these firms. Research and development spending reached 59.55 billion yuan. This is a 14.1 percent increase over the previous year. For the purpose of this data, major companies are classified as those with annual revenue of at least 20 million yuan.
These metrics provide a clear snapshot of the current health and scale of the Chinese digital economy. As companies balance revenue expansion with continued investment in innovation, the sector maintains a consistent upward trajectory in both profit and research output.
