Firefly Fiber Broadband is celebrating eight years of service in Central Virginia. The company, a subsidiary of the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative, has expanded its network to provide high-speed internet to more than 45,000 homes and businesses since its launch in 2018.
Gary Wood, president and CEO of Firefly, stated the goal from the start was to ensure rural areas have access to the same technology as urban centers. The project focuses on providing reliable, high-speed connections that assist residents with education, business operations, and remote work opportunities across Nelson and Amherst counties.
Over the past eight years, the company has worked with local governments and community leaders to reach underserved populations. This work remains centered on a commitment to closing the digital divide for families in the region.
Looking ahead, Firefly plans to continue its infrastructure investments to meet the needs of the area for years to come. The company maintains a focus on transparency and quality of service as it seeks to connect more users throughout Central Virginia.
