Kinetic is currently offering a 10,000 dollar reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for copper thefts in Northwest Arkansas. The internet service provider reports that thieves have cut and stolen over 5,000 feet of copper cable from Washington, Madison, and Carroll counties over the last month alone. These thefts occurred specifically in Berryville, St. Paul, Elkins, Rudd, and Drakes Creek.
Megan Krtek, a spokesperson for Kinetic, stated that while the cost varies by situation, each restoration project requires thousands of dollars. The impact extends beyond repair costs. These service outages disrupt access to emergency services like 911, fire, and police departments. The company notes that rural communities often face the highest risks from these service interruptions because they have fewer backup connection options.
Copper theft has become a widespread issue across the nation. AT&T recorded over 10,400 incidents nationwide in 2025. Rising market prices for copper have increased the incentive for these crimes, making utility infrastructure a primary target for thieves looking for quick profit. The damage often costs thousands of dollars in repairs while the thieves receive only a small fraction of that amount in black-market value.
In response, Kinetic has formed an internal task force composed of former law enforcement, military, and operations personnel. They are deploying night vision cameras and GPS tracking systems to monitor assets. Local law enforcement in cities like Fayetteville and Springdale are also tracking the trend, noting that vacant commercial and residential buildings are common sites for these thefts. Police recommend that contractors and owners secure electrical wiring in locked trailers and monitor active construction sites closely.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately to local police or the Arkansas State Police. Kinetic also maintains a dedicated toll-free line at 855-268-2211 for reporting information regarding these thefts. The company remains committed to working with legislators to find long-term solutions for this systemic crime.
