Honor has officially launched the Robot Phone in China, bringing a mechanical gimbal system to the mobile market. What began as a concept last year is now a reality for consumers. The device features a motorized 4DoF gimbal that allows the main 200-megapixel camera to track subjects and maintain stability while the user is in motion. Demonstrations show the gimbal output providing smooth footage during activities like running or dancing, contrasting sharply with standard smartphone video.
The hardware includes a large Type 1/1.28 image sensor and an f/1.6 lens. To ensure the output matches its mechanical performance, Honor partnered with Arri to integrate professional cinema image science and film profiles. Beyond the stabilization system, the phone includes a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. It also supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second for high-speed capture.
The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and features a 6.3-inch OLED display capable of 6,800 nits of peak brightness. The device starts at 9,999 yuan, roughly $1,500. Currently, availability remains restricted to the Chinese market. It remains to be seen when international users will gain access to this hardware.
The inclusion of a retractable, motorized gimbal marks a change in how mobile devices handle video stabilization. By moving the sensor and lens physically, the system mimics the behavior of professional camera rigs. With the integration of Arri software, Honor aims to position this device as a tool for creators who need cinematic results without carrying heavy equipment.
