HTC has officially launched its Vive Eagle smart glasses in the United States. This move brings a direct competitor to the established market segment currently dominated by Meta. First introduced as a concept last year, the wearable device seeks to capture interest from users who prefer a glasses-first design over head-mounted displays containing digital screens. The product is available starting today, with shipments beginning to reach customers in the coming weeks.
Design choices prioritize a standard eyewear aesthetic. Consumers can select from two primary frame styles, square and round, available in several colorways including black, coffee, navy, and berry red. The hardware features Zeiss lenses as a standard inclusion, though buyers can opt for sunglasses or photochromic variants. A physical button on the side of the frames initiates communication with the chosen AI agent, removing the need for a specific wake word. HTC includes two years of AI service with the initial purchase price, with subscription plans expected to follow once this period expires.
Privacy remains a point of focus for the company. While the frames feature an indicator LED to signal active recording, the system also incorporates audio-sensing technology. The glasses listen for verbal requests from subjects to cease recording, providing a layer of control for bystanders.
