Valve recently gave the public an early look at its upcoming Steam Frame VR headset. The company accidentally pushed eight instructional videos in an ARM Steam Client update, which users quickly archived and distributed online. These clips provide a clear view of the hardware configuration, including the sign-in process, physical fit, and included accessories.
The instructional videos feature a distinct, lighthearted tone. One clip demonstrates a QR code login method that requires scanning the code through the headset lens. Others focus on hardware specifics like the interpupillary distance wheel, which includes a sliding lock mechanism. Modular components such as magnetic face gaskets and eye spacers are also visible, suggesting a design centered on user-adjustable ergonomics.
Hardware details confirm that the headset features a battery pack mounted on the rear strap to balance the device weight. Included ergonomic items are hand straps for controllers, a crown support strap, and an extended light blocker for users requiring specific facial coverage. These accessories aim to address comfort issues often present in VR hardware.
The Steam Frame is expected to release this summer. While the videos explain the device setup, they do not disclose the retail price. Given the current hardware climate and the inclusion of 16GB of RAM, industry analysts expect a high price point. The hardware launch follows Valve's recent releases of the Steam Machine and new controller options.
