Community gathers for vigil after deadly Bite of Seattle mass shooting

Approximately 100 people gathered at the Seattle Center International Fountain on Monday evening for a vigil honoring the victims of the mass shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival. The violence, which occurred on Sunday, left three individuals dead and four others wounded. Attendees included Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and Police Chief Shon Barnes, who joined the community in a moment of silence and prayer.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office identified the three deceased as 19-year-old Junior Cee Niko Semo, 44-year-old Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba, and 56-year-old Ashley Whitehead. Authorities stated that the incident is currently under investigation as a gang-related gunfight. Investigators believe Semo was one of at least two people who exchanged fire during the festival.

A 15-year-old boy is in police custody on charges of first-degree assault and firearms violations. Detectives continue their search for a third person suspected of involvement in the shooting. Officials are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events.

During the event, Mayor Wilson and Chief Barnes addressed public concerns regarding the speed of information provided by city officials after the tragedy. The Mayor noted that the city is being careful with the release of details to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The site of the shooting has since reopened to the public as the community processes the event.
