Eight family members found dead in Michigan fire, some with gunshot wounds

Authorities in Michigan are investigating a tragedy in Grand Haven Township after eight members of a family were found dead following a house fire on Friday morning. Emergency crews responded to a call at a residence on Riverside Trail around 11:40 a.m. When firefighters entered the structure to address the smoke, they discovered the bodies of two adults and six children, aged five to 15.

Officials reported that some of the victims sustained gunshot wounds. Capt. Jacob Sparks of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office stated at a press conference that the situation remains under investigation as they work to determine exactly what occurred within the home. State police arson investigators have joined the local sheriff’s office to assist in examining the scene and confirming the cause of the fire.

While the investigation is active, authorities noted that they are not currently searching for any suspects outside of the home. Autopsies are scheduled to take place over the weekend to provide further clarity on the circumstances of the deaths. The identities of the family members have not yet been released to the public.
