Berlin Pride ramming: Suspect shot dead in police operation
Authorities in Berlin confirmed today that the main suspect in Saturday’s deadly van ramming attack at a Christopher Street Day Pride event has been killed. Police located the individual in a garden allotment in the Spandau district on Sunday. According to official reports, the man charged at responding officers while wielding a bladed weapon. Officers returned fire, and the suspect died at the scene despite attempts by emergency crews to save him.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that investigators believe there is no further active threat to the public. While police are not currently searching for additional suspects, the government maintains a formal investigation into potential accomplices. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s office has officially assumed control of the case, treating the incident as an act of Islamist terrorism.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited central Berlin to address the tragedy, emphasizing that the country will not allow acts of terror to intimidate the public or dismantle open society. Bundestag President Julia Klöckner ordered flags at the national parliament to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the victims and their families.
The suspect, identified as a German citizen with prior links to Islamist circles, had a history of attempting to join extremist groups abroad. Records show he previously traveled to Lebanon in an attempt to reach Syria, where he served prison time for inciting religious conflict before his return to Germany. Security officials and political leaders are now engaged in a broader debate regarding counterterrorism measures and the monitoring of known extremist threats within the country.
