Gainesville Fine Arts Association showcases Jessica Carter’s ‘florida/woman’ exhibition
The Gainesville Fine Arts Association is currently hosting a new exhibition from artist Jessica Carter titled florida/woman. The show features a collection of photographic self-portraits that examine the artist's personal experiences as a transgender woman residing in Florida. Through her work, Carter addresses the tension between her deep connection to the state and her feelings of vulnerability within the landscape.
The exhibition is open to the public at the association's main gallery located at 1314 S. Main St. It will remain on display through Aug. 8. Guests can attend the Artwalk reception this Friday, July 31, from 7 to 10 p.m. to meet the artist and view the collection in person.
Alongside this solo show, the gallery is presenting Drink n Draw: A Community Exhibition in the front gallery space. This event provides an opportunity for the community to engage with various regional works. These exhibitions are part of the association's commitment to showcasing emerging and established artists throughout the year.
The project received support from Visit Gainesville, Alachua County, and the State of Florida Division of Arts and Culture. The National Endowment for the Arts also provided funding for the presentation. Visitors are encouraged to stop by during regular gallery hours to view the full series.
