Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. addressed the announcement by expressing disappointment regarding the group's withdrawal from the process. Mason noted that the newly created Asian Pop category serves to recognize the growth of artistry from across Asia, rather than to isolate those artists from the broader music industry.
In his statement to the public, the Recording Academy head clarified that genre-specific submissions do not prohibit artists from being considered in major categories such as Album of the Year or Song of the Year. He maintained that the inclusion of new categories is intended to expand the scope of recognition for a diverse range of creators currently shaping the global music landscape.
The 2027 Grammy Awards are scheduled for February 7, with plans to broadcast the ceremony across multiple platforms including ABC and Disney+.
