The London stage revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George is moving forward as scheduled for summer 2027. Despite the news that Ariana Grande will not participate in the production, producers at Empire Street Productions confirmed the show remains on track at the Barbican.
Grande was previously attached to the project to play the dual roles of Dot and Marie alongside Jonathan Bailey as George Seurat. The singer and actor is stepping back from public-facing commitments once her current tour ends on September 1. Her team stated that the decision follows a period of constant public scrutiny.
Empire Street Productions expressed support for the choice. Director Marianne Elliot remains at the helm of the revival, and casting efforts for the ensemble are currently underway in London. Producers intend to share updates on the new cast members in the coming months.
