Marty Smith having 'a lot of fun' on TNT's NASCAR shows

Marty Smith is back on the NASCAR circuit this summer. The Giles High and Radford University graduate serves as the host for the pre-race and post-race programs during TNT’s Cup Series telecasts. Smith, who maintains his role at ESPN, balances his new responsibilities with his existing workload while enjoying the camaraderie of the broadcast crew.

Smith joined the team alongside Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Letarte, Jamie McMurray, and Jeff Burton. He noted the team dynamic is spontaneous rather than scripted. The group operates without formal production meetings for the analysts, focusing instead on a conversational flow that relies on their existing long-term friendships.

Regarding the shift to this new role, Smith expressed appreciation for the chance to work with colleagues he has known for decades. He stated that the production staff wanted someone who could keep the broadcasts comfortable and authentic. This approach allows the team to laugh together while maintaining a high level of professional standards.

Outside of his TNT commitments, Smith continues his work with ESPN and the SEC Network. He recently taped segments for the Talkin' Season specials and remains a part of ESPN’s college football and golf coverage. His multi-year contract extension with ESPN remains in place as he manages these overlapping projects from his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
