A*STAR launches new research institute to push AI, data and computing applications
The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) recently announced the launch of the A*STAR Institute of Advanced Intelligence and Computing (A*STAR IAIC). This new entity represents a strategic consolidation of the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) and the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC).
By combining these two groups, the organization aims to better manage its technical capabilities in AI, data, and advanced computing. The new institute focuses on modeling, simulation, and high-performance computing to create practical solutions for industry and public sector partners in Singapore. This move is intended to provide a more unified approach to digital research and development.
Operations for the new institute began on July 1, 2026. All existing projects previously managed by the two legacy institutes are moving to the new structure without interruption. This transition ensures that ongoing work in quantum computing and digital simulation continues under the new name.
The formation of this institute signals a clear effort to streamline how research is translated into operational applications.
