Infleqtion Names Dr. Joseph Buck Senior Vice President of Quantum Computing Systems

Infleqtion has appointed Dr. Joseph Buck as Senior Vice President of Quantum Computing Systems. Buck brings two decades of experience from his tenure at Lockheed Martin to lead the development of the company’s Sqale neutral-atom quantum computing platform.

His background includes significant research at the California Institute of Technology where he focused on trapping neutral atoms in optical cavities. This expertise aligns with Infleqtion’s current roadmap as they transition from experimental science to building fault-tolerant architectures. Dr. Buck has a history of bringing research into fielded products, including work on polarization gratings and advanced optics.

Infleqtion CEO Matthew Kinsella stated that the company is moving past the phase of proving science and into the phase of building commercial systems. The firm has already delivered a 100-physical-qubit system to the National Quantum Computing Centre in the United Kingdom and maintains deployments in Japan. Dr. Buck is expected to translate his operational experience into the production of utility-scale hardware.

This leadership change supports the company's objective to deploy a fault-tolerant, neutral-atom quantum computer to the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park by 2027. Buck notes that the existing architecture is ready and his primary focus is on scaling production to meet customer requirements in defense and commercial sectors.
