Google is making it easier to switch from iPhone to Android

Google is updating its migration tools to make the transition from iPhone to Android more efficient. The new feature, integrated directly into Android 17, removes the requirement for users to download a separate migration application during setup. This change is designed to simplify the initial onboarding process and reduce friction for those moving between smartphone ecosystems.

Users can now transfer a wider set of data directly between devices. The supported list includes photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendars. Additionally, the system now handles sensitive information such as Google Account credentials, stored passwords, Wi-Fi network settings, and eSIM configurations without requiring manual entry or external software.

This update is currently appearing on select Pixel devices and the newly released Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8 models. Google plans to expand availability to a broader range of Android hardware in the coming weeks. By streamlining how data moves across platforms, the company intends to capture a larger share of users currently tied to the Apple ecosystem.

This move comes as part of a push to lower barriers for new customers. By making the technical aspects of switching devices feel standard and reliable, the company hopes to encourage more people to test their latest hardware.
