Samsung has officially entered the next phase of foldable technology with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London, this device serves as the direct successor to the previous Z Fold 7. The manufacturer is positioning this model as their premium offering, marked by a significant shift in hardware design and internal components.
The Z Fold 8 Ultra features an 8-inch inner AMOLED display alongside a 6.5-inch outer screen. Both panels support a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with memory options ranging from 12GB to 16GB of RAM. The internal storage tiers include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities to support heavy professional workloads.
Key physical improvements focus on durability and profile. The device measures just 4.1 mm thick when unfolded, thanks to new hinge engineering. A notable addition is the Flex Titanium display technology, which addresses the long-standing issue of visible screen creases in folding hardware. These improvements aim to provide a more consistent visual experience during media consumption or multitasking.
Battery life was a frequent criticism of the prior generation. Samsung responded by integrating a 5,000mAh battery, a significant increase from the 4,400mAh cell found in the Z Fold 7. The camera system also received a hardware boost, moving to a 50MP ultrawide lens to complement the 200MP wide sensor. These adjustments reflect a push toward high-end photography capabilities in a compact folding frame.
Market availability begins August 7, with pre-orders currently open. The starting price for the base model is $2,099.99. Samsung is currently offering various trade-in incentives and credit options through major mobile carriers and retail partners to offset the high entry cost. This device now stands as the most expensive entry in the company's foldable lineup.
