Ohtani Design Laboratory has launched a new project called V-Nade that changes how fans interact with digital talent. Part of the broader Teno-Verse system, this technology tracks hand movements to allow users to pet or stroke VTubers on screen during meet-and-greet sessions. The system functions without the need for gloves, controllers, or other peripherals. Users simply wave their hands over a sensor to trigger synchronized petting animations.
The interaction is designed to be two-way. When a fan interacts with the screen, the VTuber perceives the movement and position of the hand. This creates a specific feedback loop during individual sessions. The developers state that the technology supports 2D and 3D avatars as well as standard character illustrations paired with voice lines.
Applications for this hardware are planned for theme parks, concept cafes, and promotional fan events. The rise of VTubing has created a distinct market for tools that bridge the gap between virtual performers and their audiences. Companies in Japan are actively pursuing this space, with other firms like Docomo recently experimenting with haptic feedback systems for concert attendees.
This movement indicates a shift in fan event technology. By moving beyond passive viewing, developers aim to provide a higher degree of personal contact for attendees. As the digital entertainment industry continues to grow, these interaction systems reflect a clear trend toward hardware-enabled engagement in virtual environments.
