Trump gives first look of gold makeover to iconic Arts of War DC sculptures
President Donald Trump recently shared a first look at the ongoing restoration of the Arts of War sculptures located in Washington, DC. Construction crews are currently removing scaffolding that has concealed the iconic horse monuments near the Lincoln Memorial for the past several months.
These sculptures sit at the eastern entrance of the Arlington Memorial Bridge. They feature gilded bronze horses and human figures set on granite pedestals. The project includes specialized cleaning to remove purple copper runoff stains and a fresh application of gold leaf to the bronze figures.
The National Park Service managed the restoration as part of a wider effort to preserve historic DC landmarks ahead of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. While the parkland around the monument has been closed since July 2 to keep visitors safe, sidewalks remain open to the public.
Work is expected to continue through September 30, though the park service plans to reopen restricted areas as soon as the construction equipment is removed. This project marks the latest phase in maintenance for these prominent monuments that greet travelers entering the capital from Virginia.
