Kalshi demands Netflix take down trailer for ‘Prediction Games’ documentary

Prediction market Kalshi has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix over the promotional trailer for an upcoming documentary titled Instadocs: The Prediction Games. The company argues that the trailer is defamatory because it features misleading imagery regarding the legality of its services in Nevada. Kalshi claims the video shows a user placing a sports bet in the state, despite the platform being under a court-ordered ban in that region.

According to the legal notice, the specific receipt displayed on a phone in the trailer represents a transaction from May 2025. This date precedes the current legal restrictions imposed on Kalshi within Nevada. The company contends that presenting this footage creates a false impression that customers are currently able to trade sports event contracts in the state. Kalshi representatives state they previously alerted Netflix to this inaccuracy and received assurances that the imagery would be excluded from the final cut.

Netflix has declined to remove the trailer from its platform. In a statement to the media, the streaming service maintained that the documentary footage was captured during a July 2026 event in Las Vegas. Netflix clarified that the individual filmed was showing a past bet from their phone, and the streamer does not dispute the timing of that specific transaction. A spokesperson stated that any specific trades referenced during the event are private matters between the user and the platform.

The conflict highlights the tension between documentary filmmakers and the private entities depicted in their projects. With the documentary scheduled for release, the dispute centers on whether the trailer accurately portrays the current regulatory status of the exchange or if it unfairly damages the reputation of the firm. Neither party has indicated a retreat from their position as the release date approaches.
