Ridley Scott is officially moving forward with his adaptation of Treasure Island. The director has his sights set on casting Owen Cooper, the actor who gained recognition for his role in Adolescence. Cooper is under consideration to star alongside Hugh Jackman, who is already confirmed to play Long John Silver.

This project marks a shift for Scott, who is working with writer and executive producer Jack Thorne on the screenplay. Thorne previously co-created Adolescence, which gives him clear insight into Cooper's acting style. Casting directors have monitored Cooper closely since his performance as Jamie Miller, and his profile has grown following roles in projects like Wuthering Heights.

While Hugh Jackman has been attached to the project since June, Scott is also exploring additional casting options, including Hugh Grant. This version of the classic story aims to move away from typical adaptations, focusing on a specific tone established by Scott and his creative team. Production details remain in the early stages as the director finalizes his ensemble.

Scott has made several comments about his approach to the story, maintaining his vision for a fresh take on the Robert Louis Stevenson novel. This production will be the first major non-animated space pirate interpretation of the source material since 1999. Updates on the filming schedule and final cast confirmations are expected as Scott finishes his current press obligations.
