Judge denies Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty bond ahead of kidnapping trial
A federal judge has denied the latest request for bond for Lontrell Williams Jr., better known as the rapper Pooh Shiesty. Williams remains in custody as he awaits trial for his alleged involvement in a 2026 robbery and kidnapping case that took place at a music studio in Dallas, Texas.
Senior Judge David C. Godbey presided over the hearing in Dallas on Tuesday. During the proceedings, the judge cited public safety as the primary factor in his decision to keep the rapper behind bars. The court reviewed the proposal from the defense, which included a strict set of conditions for release. Those conditions included 24/7 home confinement, mandatory GPS monitoring, restricted travel, and regular drug testing under intensive supervision.
Defense attorneys argued that the prosecution lacks direct evidence such as weapon recovery or clear video footage linking the rapper to the crime. They also maintained that Williams does not pose a flight risk, pointing to his prior adherence to court-ordered conditions while previously on an ankle monitor. The defense team emphasized that their client has followed check-in protocols and maintained compliance throughout the legal process thus far.
This case involves a total of nine individuals, including Williams’ father and fellow rapper Big30. The charges stem from a January incident involving multiple victims, including the artist Gucci Mane. While the court acknowledged the defense request, no specific date has been set for a further hearing on the matter. The trial for these charges is currently scheduled to take place in February 2027.
