Jon Hamm is back in a new period drama. MGM+ just released the trailer for American Hostage, a thriller set in the 1970s. The show tells the true story of Fred Heckman, an Indianapolis radio reporter caught in a hostage situation. The conflict begins when Tony Kiritsis calls the radio station and forces Heckman to interview him on air. The stakes are clear throughout the footage as the series promises to capture the intensity of those 63 hours of chaos.
The cast features several notable names alongside Hamm. Mireille Enos stars as Barbara Heckman, while William Jackson Harper joins as Ben Hairston. Giovanni Ribisi plays the captor, Tony Kiritsis. Jonathan Tucker, Kristoffer Polaha, and Kat Cunning round out the primary ensemble. The eight-episode first season premieres on September 20 with two initial episodes. Following the launch, the network will release the remaining installments on a weekly schedule. The season concludes on November 1. Before the wide release, the series will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
