The Redway Community Services District has moved to a Stage 3 water shortage emergency. Effective August 3, the district imposed strict daily usage limits due to low flow levels in the Eel River. Residential customers are now restricted to 60 gallons per person per day, while commercial and industrial accounts face a limit of 400 gallons per day.
This decision follows earlier restrictions implemented in July when river flows dropped to approximately 50 percent of the historical median for that time of year. District officials state that current supply and operational conditions prevent them from meeting normal water demands. A new water-storage tank intended to bolster the local supply is currently under construction, but it is not expected to be ready until September.
Under the Stage 3 emergency, all prior Stage 1 and Stage 2 rules remain in force. Outdoor watering is restricted to specific days based on address, and all irrigation must occur between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. for no more than 10 minutes per area. Hard surfaces like driveways and sidewalks cannot be washed, and vehicle washing is restricted to commercial facilities that use recycled water.
The district emphasized that available water is prioritized for human consumption, sanitation, and fire protection. While these measures are mandatory, the declaration remains subject to formal ratification by the district Board of Directors.
