Residents in South County are reporting a series of sightings involving a small bear navigating residential areas in Pismo Beach and Arroyo Grande. Multiple homeowners have captured the animal on security cameras, showing it moving through backyards and climbing fences. The most recent footage was recorded near Easy Street on July 17.

Local law enforcement confirmed they are aware of the situation. The Pismo Beach Police Department stated that they do not plan to relocate the animal at this time. Officials anticipate the bear will exit the area on its own, provided it is not provoked or fed by humans. Authorities from the Department of Fish and Wildlife are monitoring the reports but are not actively responding to current sightings.

Police are issuing guidance for residents to manage the situation safely. Homeowners should keep windows and doors locked and ensure pets remain inside during the period the bear is active in the vicinity. If the animal is spotted, residents are advised to maintain distance, avoid approaching it, and refrain from offering food.

This marks the second notable bear sighting in the region this summer. A different young bear was reported in the Arroyo Grande area during June, which prompted a removal attempt by state wildlife officials. Unlike that previous case, the current policy focuses on letting the animal return to its natural habitat without intervention unless a direct threat to public safety arises. Residents are asked to reserve 911 calls strictly for instances where the bear creates an active danger.
