Former Louisville star Montrezl Harrell pulls double duty in Big3, TBT as ex-Cardinals face Kentucky alumni

Montrezl Harrell is proving his dedication to basketball goes well beyond his time in the NBA. The former Louisville standout and 2020 Sixth Man of the Year is spending his summer competing in both The Basketball Tournament and the Big3. This past weekend demonstrated his commitment as he traveled from Lexington to Chicago in less than 24 hours. After a hard-fought game for The Ville against Kentucky alumni in TBT, Harrell arrived in Chicago to lead the Triplets to a victory over LA Riot. He finished the contest by setting a new Big3 single-game scoring record with 42 points.

Harrell is currently juggling a rigorous schedule. He is playing in a decisive TBT game against La Familia on Wednesday before heading to Detroit on Thursday for another Big3 matchup. While he has been out of the NBA for three seasons, his love for the sport remains his primary focus. He describes the game as his sanctuary rather than just a place to collect a paycheck.

Reflecting on his career, Harrell maintains a strong connection to his college roots. He helped Louisville win a national title in 2013 and recently scored 35 points at Freedom Hall to keep his alumni team in the hunt for a 2 million dollar prize. Harrell noted that he still feels a deep bond with the Louisville program and its fan base.

Despite the time away from the NBA, Harrell remains open to a return to the league. He feels his reputation took an unfair hit due to inaccurate stories, but he continues to prioritize winning and playing the game with the right approach.
