Stars GM says signing Jason Robertson to long-term deal remains goal

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill confirmed that securing a long-term contract for winger Jason Robertson remains the primary goal for the organization. This update comes after the parties finalized a one-year, $12-million agreement this week following a period of challenging negotiations. Robertson led the team in scoring last season and remains a cornerstone of the roster as he enters his late twenties.

Nill expressed appreciation for the character Robertson brings to the team and stated that the club hopes he concludes his career in Dallas. The contract discussions hit several roadblocks throughout the offseason as both sides worked to balance salary cap requirements with the performance value of one of the league's top-scoring wingers. During the impasse, Robertson’s rights were involved in potential trade scenarios, including an offer from the Seattle Kraken that was ultimately declined by the player.
