Samsung has introduced its first Ultra-branded foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. This device functions as the top tier in their current lineup, positioned above the standard Fold 8. Priced at £1,899, it maintains the dimensions and thin profile established by the Fold 7 while introducing significant internal hardware improvements.
The device features an 8-inch internal OLED screen with an anti-reflective coating that improves visibility in direct sunlight. While the screen crease is still present, the hardware improvements provide a crisp viewing experience for reading and multitasking. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which supports demanding tasks and split-screen workflows without difficulty.
Battery life stands out as a primary upgrade. With a 13.6% larger battery, users can expect about two days of usage. This longevity makes it competitive with other flagships, provided users avoid constant intensive gaming. The camera system includes a 200MP main sensor that performs well in most conditions, although the 3x telephoto camera is less capable than some rivals.
Software support remains a core strength for the product. It runs One UI 9 based on Android 17, with updates guaranteed through July 2033. Features like the Now Bar and integrated AI tools add utility to the tablet-sized interface. Despite its high price and maintenance requirements, it is currently the most capable folding phone from the company.
