University of Michigan alumna Maya Boyd is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming X-Men reboot. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced the cast during the D23 presentation last week. Boyd will step into the role of Storm, a character famously portrayed by Halle Berry in previous iterations of the franchise.
This role marks a significant film debut for Boyd. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2024 and balanced her academic requirements with her performance in the Broadway production of Juliet. Her transition from university theater to a massive studio project demonstrates a rapid trajectory in the entertainment industry.
Boyd joins a cast that includes Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Inde Navarrette as Rogue. Marvel scheduled the untitled X-Men film for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028.
