Front Row GM Freeze on navigating futures of Riggs, Smith: ‘That’s a big challenge’

Front Row Motorsports faces a difficult roster management situation as their top prospects, Layne Riggs and Chandler Smith, continue to dominate in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Both drivers hold ambitions of moving up to the Cup Series, but the team's current lineup remains locked in for the foreseeable future.

General Manager Jerry Freeze confirmed that the organization has secured its three-car Cup Series roster through at least next season. Zane Smith is under contract through 2027, Todd Gilliland recently signed an extension, and Noah Gragson is nearing a deal to keep him in the No. 4 car through 2027 as well. This leaves no immediate vacancies for the rising stars currently winning in the truck ranks.

Freeze acknowledged the difficulty of balancing his drivers' career aspirations with the realities of team stability and sponsorship logistics. He expressed full belief in the talent of both Riggs and Smith, noting that the organization sees a bright future for them, but emphasized that securing a seat requires a specific combination of sponsorship and timing that is not currently available at the Cup level.

Despite the lack of an immediate path forward, the drivers are maintaining their focus on the current season. Riggs currently leads the Truck Series standings with five wins, while Smith sits in third place. Both competitors are prioritizing their performance on track as they wait for potential future opportunities to arise either within the organization or elsewhere in the sport.

For now, the focus remains on the remainder of the truck schedule. Riggs continues his hunt for a title, and both drivers remain dedicated to performing for their current team while navigating the competitive landscape of professional racing.
